The mile weather late in the week ushered in several RED-SHOULDERED
HAWKS, a number of KILLDEER and AMERICAN WOODCOCKS, an early TREE
SWALLOW, several migrant flocks of SNOW BUNTINGS, small flocks of
RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS and COMMON GRACKLES, and several PURPLE FINCHES.
Reports from Parker River Refuge on Plum Island included 2 KILLDEER, a
ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, a PEREGRINE FALCON, 30 RAZORBILLS, a BARRED OWL, a
SHORT-EARED OWL, and a NORTHERN SHRIKE.
At the Appleton Farm in Ipswich, a RED-HEADED WOODPECKER 2 PILEATED
WOODPECKERS, and 2 EVENING GROSBEAKS were seen.
At Folly Cove in Rockport 1-2 THICK-BILLED MURRES were seen, and in
Gloucester another THICK-BILLED MURRE was observed at the Jodrey Fish
Pier and a KING EIDER was seen at Bass Rocks.
Noted at Bear Creek Park in Saugus this week as a BALD EAGLE, a
ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, 4 SHORT-EARED OWLS, and 2 AMERICAN PIPITS.
Reports from Nantucket featured a TUFTED DUCK, a SORA, and a DICKCISSEL.
Observed at the Cumberland Farms fields in Middleboro were a
ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, 3-4 SHORT-EARED OWLS, a TREE SWALLOW, and a VESPER
Miscellaneous reports included a ROSS'S GOOSE visiting both Arcade
Pond and Whitins Pond in Whitinsville; a REDHEAD at the Cambridge
Reservoir in Waltham; a TUFTED DUCK at Pocksha Pond in Middleboro; a
BARROW'S GOLDENEYE on Lake Assawompsett in Lakeville; RED-SHOULDERED
HAWKS in Milton, Hanson, Rehoboth, and Concord; 7 KILLDEER in Essex; a
GLAUCOUS GULL in Lunenburg; the continued presence of 2 WHITE-WINGED
DOVES in the Boston Fenway Victory Garden; a NORTHERN SHRIKE at the
Orange Airport; 3 WINTER WRENS at Cold Spring Park in Newton; 2
ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLERS at the Arnold Arboretum; and a YELLOW-BREASTED
CHAT at Nahant.
